TALK WITH YOUR GOD

Have you ever had the experience of a few words in a worship chorus go over and over in your mind for days, like someone has hit the replay button and it got stuck. That has happened to me several times over the years, and there is always a reason. I try to be very sensitive to this when it happens. For the past week, a line in a song, which a woman evangelist sang, has been doing this. The name of the song was Talk With Your God. The verse in the song is simple yet profound:

“I talked with God in secret on bowed knee, I talked with God, and He did hear my pleas. In tender tone He beckoned unto me. Talk with your God and He will talk with thee.”

The line in the chorus that has been replaying in my mind all week goes like this, “Talk with your God, He understands. Talk with your God, He always cares”.

The songwriter knew from experience what she was writing about, just as the Psalmist knew the value of dwelling in the secret place. We can see this in Psalm 91, “He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall remain stable and fixed under the shadow of the Almighty [Whose power no foe can withstand]. I will say of the Lord, He is my Refuge and my Fortress, my God; on Him I lean and rely, and in Him I [confidently] trust! For [then] He will deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the deadly pestilence.” The rewards of prayer are worth the time spent in His presence.

Isaiah 45:3 “And I will give you the treasures of darkness and hidden riches of secret places that you may know that it is I, the Lord, the God of Israel, Who calls you by your name.” I love this Psalm, because in prayer our relationship with God is strengthened in such a personal way through being on a first name basis with God. His name means YAWEH or Lord, which means God absolutely is. When we talk with God in the secret place, He talks  with us. So this week, Talk with Your God. He understands.

We believe in you!
