Have you ever stopped to think about it this way? More than likely you have not. Could this be how darkness invades neighborhoods and turns them into “hoods”? The scripture says in 2nd Corinthians 4:4, “If our message is obscure to anyone, it’s not because we’re holding back in any way. No, it’s because these other people are looking or going the wrong way and refuse to give it serious attention. All they have eyes for is the fashionable god of darkness. They think he can give them what they want, and that they won’t have to bother believing a truth they can’t see. They’re stone-blind to the dayspring brightness of the message that shines with Christ, who gives us the best picture of God we’ll ever get.”
One of the darkest places I have ever been is a village in Mexico. I was sitting in a car praying while others on our team shopped in the shops which were located at the foot of an ancient Indian temple ground where human sacrifices had taken place. I was praying before I would speak in a national conference that evening, and it was the only place I could find to be alone. Suddenly, out of nowhere there was an explosion that rattled the car. It literally seemed to suck the air out of the atmosphere. Before I was able to gather my thoughts, there were two more consecutive powerful booms. What happened next was very interesting. Out of the hills and businesses and humble casas people began to make their way toward the Cathedral in center of the village. The noise was not a chapel bell. It was like the sound of a canon.
Yes, in one of the darkest places I have ever been, the people were called to prayer with an explosion that sounded like a jet breaking the sound barrier. When the light is darkness, how great is that darkness. It is time to let your light shine and to sound the trumpet; for before you can awaken the world, you have to wake up the Church. We are the light of the Tri-State, and it is time to turn up the Light.
