Spiritual Purpose

Dear Church Family Choice Greetings,

I am writing to you as people of vision and expectation. It is in this frame of mind that spiritual purpose stirs my spirit to live with anticipation of what God has in mind for our fellowship in the days ahead. Life is more than; do good, be good and feel good. I believe there is a spiritual purpose for each life. Some may ask what is a spiritual purpose? It is easy to see Paul and Silas spiritual purpose as you follow them on their journey through the pages of the Book of Acts.

In the Book of Acts chapter 16, Paul and Silas found their journey Divinely Directed:

6-9 "They made their way through Phrygia and Galatia, but the Holy Spirit prevented them from speaking God's message in Asia. When they came to Mysia they tried to enter Bithynia, but again the Spirit of Jesus would not allow them. So they passed by Mysia and came down to Troas, where one night Paul had a vision of a Macedonian man standing and appealing to him in the words: "Come over to Macedonia and help us!"

10 As soon as Paul had seen this vision, we made every effort to get on to Macedonia, convinced that God had called us to give them the good news."

Their lives and the lives of those who have surrendered themselves to His purpose will experience navigational re-directions from time to time.

One translation puts it in these words which may give clarity to the subject:

"Their plan was to turn west into Asia province, but the Holy Spirit blocked that route. So they went to Mysia and they tried to go north to Bithynia, but the Spirit of Jesus wouldn't let them go there either." Proceeding on through Mysia, they went down to the seaport Troas." The result was God opened Europe to the Gospel.

I believe our spiritual purpose is divinely directed as well. Our journey has to do with our choice to live for eternity. In John chapter 17, Jesus spiritual purpose was to live for the Glory of the Father.

17 1-3 "When Jesus had said these words, he raised his eyes to Heaven and said, "Father, the hour has come. Glorify your Son now so that he may bring GLORY TO YOU, for you have given him authority over all men to give eternal life for all that you have given to him. And this is eternal life, to know you, the only true God, and him whom you have sent—Jesus Christ."

"I have brought you honor upon earth; I have completed the task which you gave me to do."

I have always believed that true soldiers of the cross can hear trumpets in the morning calling them to service. Heritage has always been called a GATHERING OF EAGLES and for good reason. Eagles are associated with greatness, the mountain peaks, the deep valleys of the West, the heights, and the depths, as well as isolation. One of the verses that has followed me all my life walking with God is found in Proverbs 29:18:

"Where there is no vision the people perish, but he that keeps the law happy is he."

I like this translation of this verse,

"WHERE THERE IS NO REDEMPTIVE VISION PEOPLE CAST OFF RESTRAINT."

It is interesting to me that Paul and Silas were BLOCKED, STOPPED; THE SPIRIT OF JESUS WOULD NOT LET THEM GO. HE PREVENTED AND PROHIBITED THEM, EITHER THROUGH DIVINE CIRCUMSTANCES OR REVELATION FROM GOD. IT WAS BECAUSE OF THIS RESTRAINT THAT THE GOSPEL SPREAD INTO MACEDONIA.

VISION HAS POWER TO CONSTRAIN OR RESTRAIN YOUR LIFE, IT IS CALLED THE LAW OF VISION.

You may very well have something in mind you want to do for the cause of Christ, when the Lord would lead you into and entirely different direction at your obedience. So, for this reason we pray, "COME THY KINGDOM, BE DONE THY WILL."

1 CORINTHIANS 10:31

"Do all for the honor and glory of God."

SO, I'LL FOLLOW.
