I am transfixed on this line in the old song “I Have Decided to Follow Jesus”. Most of you will know it; but, what spurred my thinking about this line was a poem I read the other day.
'Saul Kane," she said,
“When next you drink, do me the gentleness to think
That every drop of drink accurst, Makes Christ within you die of thirst.
That every dirty word you say, Is one more flint upon His way,
Another thorn upon His head, Another mock by where He tread,
Another nail, another Cross. All that you are is that, Christ’s loss."
“I have decided to follow Jesus.” This indicates that you are following on to know Him. Jesus dealt with inadequate views concerning who He was. Today, what you and I have to say about Him is of eternal consequence. In Mark 8, those who knew Him best were wrong about Him. He asked, “Who do men say that I am?”. What would you say to this question? He is our Redeemer, and He lives and is alive forever more!
